What's Up Wednesday/Ready. Set. WRITE!

Happy Wednesday, everyone! As I mentioned last week, it’s now the end of Ready. Set. WRITE! This summer flew by so fast my head is spinning, and while I’ve gotten a lot written, there are still tons of words rattling around in there waiting to get out. I hope you all enjoyed our summer writing incentive and that you’ll continue to be dedicated to your WIPs and encourage one another throughout the writing process. Speaking of encouragement, my RSW co-hosts and I are offering 10-page critiques to five RSW participants. If you’ve been hard at work this summer and would like a fresh set of eyes on your story, feel free to enter the giveaway with the rafflecopter at the end of this post. We’ll be announcing the winners next Wednesday. Thanks again to everyone who participated and made our summer writing challenge a huge success!

What I’m Reading:
Seeing as I had a good writing week, I didn’t get much reading done. I’m still poking away at Siege and Storm and regret that I’ve had to read it only a few pages at a time, because I really am enjoying it. Seriously, it’s taking me so long to get through it’s embarrassing.

What I’m Writing:
My goal last week was to outline the next string of scenes in my WIP and write 1000 words. Once I sorted out a couple details, my outline fell into place very quickly. Love it when that happens. That freed up the rest of my week to focus on actual writing. I wrote just over 5300 words, and I’m now in the thick of the scenes I’ve been waiting ages to write. I’ve pictured these scenes for so long, and I hope I can get them onto the page the way I’ve played them over in my head. That’s always the challenge, isn’t it?

What’s Inspiring Me Right Now:
Weirdly enough, glow bracelets.  They factor into the scenes I’m writing these days, so wearing a couple gets me in the frame of mind for my story’s setting. Plus, THEY’RE FUN!

What Else I’ve Been Up to:
Tinkering around with the new Kobo Arc tablet my hubby bought me.  I’m not a techie person, but this thing is so cool, and incredibly handy while I write. How nerdy is it that the first app I downloaded was for Dictionary.com?

Watching episodes of New Girl. I’m not-so-secretly infatuated with Schmidt.

Drinking pretty sparkling juices imported from England. My husband rides his bike to work during the summer and often comes home with fun beverages in his bike bag. You name it: tea, beer, wine, juice. I should start calling his bike the Beverage Mobile. If people knew what he had in there, I’m not kidding, they’d shove a stick in his spokes and mug him.

Getting ready for the school year. Still can't believe summer is almost done.

Waiting for my sister and her hubby to arrive from Alberta. By the time this posts, they’ll already be here, and I’m super excited! Jaime and I will be able to discuss story stuff in person and that’s always awesome! The guys will likely be banished to the man cave aka the rec room. Oh wait! Their car just pulled up! Yay!

So what’s up with you this week? If you’d like to share, go ahead and leave your link on Jaime Morrow’s site. Also, if you participated in RSW, remember to enter our critique giveaway on the rafflecopter below.

  2. Time with siblings is awesome, isn't it? Have a great time with Jaime! And congratulations on getting so much writing done! That's fantastic.

My Kindle came pre-loaded with an English and a US-English dictionary. I think it knew I was coming ;) I love editing on mine.

    1. We're having a great time already! I think we're headed out tea shopping in a few minutes actually. That's very cool that your Kindle came pre-loaded with a dictionary. Very handy! i just love how portable my tablet is. I need to load it up with music asap. :)

    1. I definitely will! I haven't seen her in ages (other than on Skype), and this was sort of a spur of the moment trip for them, so I'm totally excited! As for the 5000 words, that was unexpected this week. I thought I'd need to spend way more time outlining. I can't tell you how happy it makes me that you want to know what happens next! That's hugely motivating! I'm plugging away at it and enjoying seeing the story unfold!

And the juices are so good! :)

  4. We sell those juices in the supermarket I work in, I've never tried them though :)
Congratulations on getting so much done this week, and good luck getting your scenes down how you've been imagining them - I always struggle with this!

  5. Ooh, I'm in the thick of those can't-wait-to-write scenes too... The best! Way to go on your stellar word count this week. I'm rooting for you to keep your momentum!

I hope you and Jaime have lots of sisterly bonding time. Have a great week, Erin!

    1. Those are the scenes that make a story worth writing. I worry that I won't get them right, but at the same time the challenge is exciting! My momentum will have to take a bit of a break while Jaime is visiting, but I'm sure after our visit I'll feel recharged and ready to dive back in. We're having a great time so far! Hope you have a great week too!

  6. Go you on the writing!! I love getting to those much-anticipated scenes. And now I am super curious as to how the glow bracelets fit in. (I routinely buy the entire stock of glow necklaces at the dollar store. You can never have too many of those things.) :)

And how fun that you and Jaime get to spend time together and chat about your stories in person. That's gotta recharge your writerly batteries enough to last you the whole year.

Hope you have a fantastic week!

    1. I've been waiting forever to write these scenes, so I'm both nervous and excited about it. This is a major turning point in the story, and I really want to get it just right! Oddly, this isn't the first time glow bracelets have factored into the trilogy I'm writing. I should've bought some glow necklaces too. :)

Jaime and I often discuss writing on Skype, which is a huge help, but to have the chance to talk about our WIPs in person is even better. I'm very lucky to have a sister that is a writer too. Hope you have an awesome week as well!

  7. When I have good writing weeks, my reading suffers a bit too. And vice-versa. Balance...so hard to find! Also, HOW COOL that you and Jaime get to hang out and discuss writerly stuff. Have a great time! Also, I'm loving the glow bracelets. And the hubby's basket of beverages! That's so cool!

    1. That's so true about balance. Lately, I've been going to bed in the wee hours of the morning after some long writing sessions and by that time I can only read a few pages before I fall asleep. And for some reason this always happens right when I'm reading a book I love.

Jaime and I are having a fun time so far, and I'm sure our discussions will motivate me to make some more good progress on my WIP. :)

    1. I couldn't make due without it or Thesaurus.com. Jaime and I are having a great time so far. We went book & tea shopping today, which is always more fun with a sister along. :)

  10. So awesome that you and Jaime get to visit together - it's always fun when I get to hang out with my brothers for a little sibling bonding time :)

Haha, you are not alone in your nerdiness - my husband and I share a tablet and his first download was a superhero game. I'm pretty sure mine was a dictionary app.

    1. It's definitely nice to bond in person instead of just over Skype. We're having a lot of fun so far!

I don't know what my husband's first app was, but I'm pretty sure a Harry Potter Lego game was one of them. Also pretty nerdy. :)

  12. I love the idea of the Beverage Mobile. There's a place in my town that will deliver pasta on bikes (if you live by the university). I think there needs to be more bike food and drink delivery.

    1. It's an advantage having my own personal beverage delivery service! Pasta delivered by bike is such a great idea! I agree there should be more of that. It's way better for the environment!

  13. Your writing progress gets you off the hook in the reading department. Good for you and congrats on getting into scenes you've been dying to write, what fun! I love glow bracelets. Very intrigued how they factor into your scenes.

It sounds like you and Jaime will have a wonderful sister reunion. It's so valuable to have another writer in your fam to bounce ideas off!

    1. Isn't it crazy that I feel guilty for not reading? That's like saying I feel guilty for not relaxing more. I guess when you write, reading is sort of like homework too. I'm very excited to finally be at this next batch of scenes. They kind of form the heart of my story, and I hope I can do them justice!

I'm very lucky to have a sister that writes as well. I don't think I'd ever have finished a book without having her support and input!

  15. The reading-writing balance can be tough, especially when you're into revisions, and trying to get the manuscript ready for beta reading. It's hard to stop and say, "Enough! I have to do some reading!" Often, I don't. After all, my novel needs work, and the one I'm reading will still be there after I've finished.

I expect a lot of creative sparks will be flying when you and Jaime get together. I hope you have a lot of fun, and that your time together will be inspiring and motivating. :)

    1. And reading is so important, not just for recharging, but for learning the craft of writing too. I think I read the least when I'm actually enjoying writing, so that's a good thing.

Jaime and I are enjoying our visit so far, and we've had the chance to talk over some issues with our WIPS. Hopefully, we'll dig into that a little more yet, because I really value her input. Especially when it's in person! :)
